The Lamb, the Light, and Life in the Heavenly City
Tumblr media
Have you ever imagined a world independent of material comforts? A place where ailments are non-existent, and rest is not required? Can we conceive a reality where our largest desires are fulfilled in the company of the Lord alone?
And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, because the glory of God illuminates the city, and the Lamb is its lamp. — Revelation 21:23
In the glorious world beyond, the inhabitants are free from all earthly necessities. There is no need for clothes, as their white robes remain forever pure and unspoiled. There are no ailments to cure, for there, no one proclaims, "I am sick." They do not require sleep to restore their strength. Day and night, they praise Him in His holy temple. The fleeting comforts of earth are not a requirement for happiness in this heavenly city. The presence of the Lord Himself is enough to satisfy the most profound of desires. In this divine place, there is no need for teachers. Although they surely discuss the things of God amongst themselves, they are taught directly by the Lord.
In the world we know, we rely on perishable food and clothing, subject to decay; but in that heavenly city, all sustenance is found God. There will be no need to draw water from a well; instead, we will drink directly from the Source of living water.
The heavenly messengers will need not bring blessings from God, for we will see Him face to face. What a blessed time it will be when we rise above every secondary cause and rest solely in the strength of God! What a glorious moment when God and not His creations--the Lord and not His works--become our daily joy. At this time, our souls will attain the apex of bliss.
Father, Illuminate our path with Your divine light; May we seek to rely more and more on Your providence. Guide us to a deeper understanding of Your Word; Nurture within us a yearning for eternal bliss.
Questions for Reflection
How can we cultivate a sense of independence from material comforts in our daily lives?
What practices might help us to remember and appreciate the non-material blessings we receive?
How does the description of God's city change your perspective on earthly relationships and our dependence on them?
If you lived in a place where there was no sickness or tiredness, how would your life and your priorities change?
What might "leaning upon the Lord alone" look like in your daily life?
How can we focus more on God and less on His creations in our everyday life?
If we were to rely solely on God for sustenance, how might that change our behaviors and attitudes?
What does the idea of "drinking from the source of living water" mean to you personally?
If we can imagine a place where we are directly taught by God, how might that influence our approach to learning and seeking knowledge now?
What does it mean to you to "see God face to face"?
How can you apply the concept of resting solely in the strength of God in your current circumstances?
How can you cultivate a longing for eternal bliss within your heart and mind?
Supporting Scriptures
Isaiah 24:23: The moon will be confounded and the sun will be ashamed; for the LORD of Hosts will reign on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem, and before His elders with great glory.
Isaiah 60:19-20: No longer will the sun be your light by day, nor the brightness of the moon shine on your night; for the LORD will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your splendor.
Ezekiel 48:35: The perimeter of the city will be 18,000 cubits, and from that day on the name of the city will be: THE LORD IS THERE.”
Malachi 4:2: “But for you who fear My name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its wings, and you will go out and leap like calves from the stall.
John 8:12: Once again, Jesus spoke to the people and said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
2 Corinthians 4:6: For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
1 John 1:5: And this is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.

RESPONSIBILITY TO WALK IN HIS AUTHORITY
Genesis 1:26 - "Let Us make man in Our image, to be like Ourselves; let man have dominion…over all the earth."
It has always been the Lord's intent to have a "people" who would have dominion authority on the earth. The word "dominion" (Hebrew - radah) means to prevail, rule, reign, to tread down."
After God formed man, He blessed him and told him to fill the earth, subdue it, and have dominion over all of creation (Genesis 1:28). The word "subdue" (Hebrew - kabash) means to bring into subjection.
Jesus taught his disciples that it all begins with the revelation of RESTORED RELATIONSHIP ("Our Father, who is in Heaven" - Matthew 6:9) -- realizing that we are truly made in His image and created to express His Kingdom into the earth (Matthew 6:10).
DISCIPLING OF OTHERS
Jesus worked with the disciples -- loving them, mentoring them, challenging them, encouraging them -- over and over again until they were ready to receive the revelation in the empowerment of the Holy Spirit and step out to change the world. We are to do likewise with the ones God has given us to PERSONALLY DISCIPLE.
Through Jesus Christ we have been given authority over the enemy and all that he would try to come against us with. The word AUTHORITY means, LEGAL OR RIGHTFUL POWER, A RIGHT TO COMMAND OR ACT. "Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you." - Luke 10:19
It is time for us to truly understand what Jesus has restored to us through the Cross (Our Christ identity), and step into the fullness of that relationship and have great impact in the earth. It is time for us to occupy our Kingdom authority so that we can occupy the earth and make it as it is in Heaven!
LET US DECLARE:
That we will ask, knock, and seek (Matthew 7:7) until we come to understand and implement God’s purpose for our life in advancing His Kingdom in the earth.
We come to an understanding of our Christ identity through affirmation and meditation of the scriptures (the epistles of Paul) that show us our inheritance in Christ, and seeing ourselves doing the works of Christ. Through our sonship, we will occupy the full authority we have in the earth, displacing the kingdom of darkness, and bringing all of creation back into subjection to the dominion of the King!
As we carry out our calling in Christ, we disciple others into their inheritance in Christ, their right standing with God, and walking in the Spirit equipping them to disciple others.
That we will see God's Kingdom come through us as never before and become bold expressions of the finished work of the Cross, stepping out to enforce the complete, total, and utter victory of the Risen Lord over every work and manifestation of the enemy.
Walking in His authority is actually more than just a right that has been given to us, it's our responsibility. As joint heirs with Christ, we have a responsibility to walk in His authority TAKING DOMINION. He has called us to be good stewards of His Kingdom while we are here on earth, and walking in His authority, bearing fruit that remains, goes hand in hand with being a good steward of the Kingdom.
"It is like a man going to a far country, who left his house and gave authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch."—Mark 13:34

Daily Devotionals for November 29, 2024
Proverbs: God's Wisdom for Daily Living
Devotional Scripture:
Proverbs 29:8-9 (KJV): 8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath. 9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rage or laugh, there is no rest. Proverbs 29:8-9 (AMP): 8 Scoffers set a city afire (inflaming the minds of the people), but wise men turn away wrath. 9 If a wise man has an argument with a foolish man, the fool only rages or laughs, and there is no rest.
Thought for the Day
Verse 8 - A scornful person can incite people to take up a grievance who will incite more people to take up the grievance and so on. This anger can even lead to the extreme of unruly mobs and anarchy. Scorners also incite contention in churches. One person takes offense at something and complains about it to other people, who then take up the offense and spread it to others. Instead of going to the pastor and praying about the problem, they fall into a snare of Satan and begin stirring up strife. People of wisdom should seek God as to how to neutralize a scorner's inflammatory words. Praying the scripture in faith over these kinds of situations can change and subdue angry crowds through God's power: "...Which stilleth the noise of the seas, the noise of their waves, and the tumult of the people" (Psalm 65:7).
One of the first things we need to know about God is that He is the source of all good things. He loves us. In fact, the Scripture says He loved us so much He sent His Son, Jesus, to die for us so that we might have life and have it more abundantly. We should not believe in praising God for tragedies, for sickness, for bad things; yet we should believe in praising Him in the midst of these circumstances. The bad things did not come from God and we don't want to blame the Lord for something the devil sent. Our God is not the author of sickness, sin, tragedies, sorrow and heartache. The devil is the one who sends these things, and then tries to get us to blame them on the Lord. God is on our side, and when we begin blaming God and murmuring against Him, we have fallen into the devil's trap. We invite the "destroyer" into our lives when we yield to the devil's temptation to accuse God for our troubles. This was the source of Job's problems, until he saw the light and repented for uttering things he did not understand. Once Job repented of his own self-righteousness and pride, then the Lord blessed and restored all things to him (Job 42:1-6).
Verse 9 - Because a foolish man's spiritual eyes are blinded, he cannot see the truth nor understand the viewpoint of those who walk in God's wisdom. When a godly man tries to explain the truth to a fool, he cannot be made to see reason, and the foolish man either rants or mocks. It is as 2 Corinthians 4:3-4 says: "But if our gospel he hid, it is hidden to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them."
Prayer Devotional for the Day
Dear heavenly Father, I thank you for giving us Your wisdom. Lord, may I never blame You when the enemy is attacking me with something evil. Lord, please deliver me from any trace of murmuring and complaining when I am faced with trials in this life. May I instead put on the armor of God and use my faith to put the enemy to flight. May I always trust You to bring me the victory over everything the enemy tries to defeat me with. I declare that he is a defeated foe and that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, and every tongue that rises up against me in judgment, you shall prove to be wrong. I thank You for the victory in Jesus’ name! Amen.

How the anti-gender movement is bringing us closer to authoritarianism
Judith Butler / March 16, 2024
In the United States, gender has been considered a relatively ordinary term. We are asked to check a box on a form, and most of us do so without giving it too much thought. But some of us don’t like checking the box and think there should be either many more boxes or perhaps none at all. The myriad, continuing debates about gender show that no one approach to defining or understanding it reigns. It’s no longer a mundane box to be checked on official forms.
The anti-gender ideology movement, however, treats the range of sometimes conflicting ideas about gender as a monolith, frightening in its power and reach.
The fear of “gender” allows existing powers — states, churches, political movements — to frighten people to come back into their ranks, to accept censorship and to externalize their fear and hatred onto vulnerable communities. Those powers not only appeal to existing fears that many working people have about the future of their work or the sanctity of their family life but also incite those fears, insisting, as it were, that people conveniently identify gender as the true cause of their feelings of anxiety and trepidation about the world.
The project of restoring the world to a phantasmatic time before gender promises a return to a patriarchal dream order that only a strong state can restore. The shoring up of state powers, including the courts, implicates the anti-gender movement in a broader authoritarian, even fascist project. We see the rolling back of progressive legislation and the targeting of sexual and gender minorities as dangers to society, as exemplifying the most destructive force in the world, in order to strip them of their fundamental rights, protections and freedoms.
Consider the allegation that “gender” — whatever it is — puts children at risk through programs such as reading books with queer characters cast as examples of indoctrination or seduction. The fear of children being harmed, the fear that the family, or one’s own family, will be destroyed, that “man” will be dismantled, including the men and man that some of us are, that a new totalitarianism is descending upon us, are all fears that are felt quite deeply by those who have committed themselves to the eradication of “gender” — the word, the concept, the academic field and the various social movements it has come to signify.
The resulting authoritarian restrictions on freedom abound, whether through establishing LGBTQ+-free zones in Poland or strangling progressive educational curricula in Florida that address gender freedom and sexuality in sex education. But no matter how intently authoritarian forces attempt to restrict freedoms, the fact that the categories of women and men shift historically and contextually is undeniable. New gender formations are part of history and reality. Gender is, in reality, minimally the rubric under which we consider changes in the way that men, women and other such categories have been understood.
As an educator, I am inclined to say to these people, “Let’s read some key texts in gender studies together and see what gender does and does not mean and whether the caricature holds up.” Reading is a precondition of democratic life, keeping debate and disagreement grounded and productive.
Sadly, such a strategy rarely works.
A woman in Switzerland once came up to me after a talk I gave and said, “I pray for you.” I asked why. She explained that the Scripture says that God created man and woman and that I, through my books, had denied the Scripture. She added that male and female are natural and that nature was God’s creation. I pointed out that nature admits of complexity and that the Bible itself is open to some differing interpretations, and she scoffed. I then asked if she had read my work, and she replied, “No! I would never read such a book!” I realized that reading a book on gender would be, for her, trafficking with the devil. Her view resonates with the demand to take books on gender out of the classroom and the fear that those who read such books are contaminated by them or subject to an ideological inculcation, even though those who seek to restrict these books have typically never read them.
To refuse gender is, sadly, to refuse to encounter the complexity that one finds in contemporary life across the world. The anti-gender movement opposes thought itself as a danger to society — fertile soil for the horrid collaboration of fascist passions with authoritarian regimes.
We need to take a stand against the anti-gender movement in the name of breathing and living free from the fear of violence.
Transnational coalitions should gather and mobilize everyone the anti-gender ideology movement has targeted. The internecine fights within the field must become dynamic and productive conversations and confrontations, however difficult, within an expansive movement dedicated to equality and justice. Coalitions are never easy, but where conflicts cannot be resolved, movements can still move ahead together with an eye focused on the common sources of oppression.
Whether or not people are assigned a gender at birth or assume one in time, they can really love being the gender that they are and reject any effort to disturb that pleasure. They seek to strut and celebrate, express themselves and communicate the reality of who they are. No one should take away that joy, as long as those people do not insist that their joy is the only possible one. Importantly, however, many endure suffering, ambivalence and disorientation within existing categories, especially the one to which they were assigned at birth. They can be genderqueer or trans, or something else, and they are seeking to live life as the body that makes sense to them and lets life be livable, if not joyous. Whatever else gender means, it surely names for some a felt sense of the body, in its surfaces and depths, a lived sense of being a body in the world in this way.
As much as someone might want to clutch a single idea of what it is to be a woman or a man, the historical reality defeats that project and makes matters worse by insisting on genders that have all along exceeded the binary alternatives. How we live that complexity, and how we let others live, thus becomes of paramount importance.
There is still much to be understood about gender as a structural problem in society, as an identity, as a field of study, as an enigmatic and highly invested term that circulates in ways that inspire some and terrify others. We have to keep thinking about what we mean by it and what others mean when they find themselves up in arms about the term.
Judith Butler is a professor of comparative literature at UC Berkeley. This essay was adapted from their forthcoming book “Who’s Afraid of Gender?”

Choice Of Following
“I will give you back your health and heal your wounds,” says the LORD…” Jeremiah 30:17NLT
Anyone can read a scripture a thousand times, only to find it blending in with the overall theme of the surrounding scripture it’s located in. At times we can see the scripture as a promise for someone’s need. But then……. there comes a time when we’ve been praying about something over and over. God tells us to look up that same scripture. This happened to me last week. As I read through those words, I heard Holy Spirit tell me, ‘this is your verse from now on. Claim it.’ Suddenly, the above text became Rhema words, living words from God to me.
I find myself in the hospital about four days after receiving the scripture. Reverberating in my mind rolls praises to God that He’s restoring health to me, and healing my wounds. There’s been plenty of wounds from auto and in home accidents. Lack of exercise from the wounds have caused health problems. Now I am left with whom shall I believe? God’s word? What the doctors say?
Everything in life has choices, small or large. Sometimes God chooses to use the medical field in healing. Other times He uses His supernatural realm. Of the two, I always prefer His Holy Spirit’s power. His healing is perfect and complete without pain.
Once a precious sister in Christ at our church had cancer at the same time the doctor diagnosed me with lung cancer. We both prayed, believed God, trusted God’s glorious healing power, as well as sought medical treatment. Marcy died. I survived by God’s miraculous hand through the surgery. Why? I asked God that question for at least two years. She was a vital part of the church, a very gracious, godly lady. Answer: “Jesus said to him, “If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow Me!” John 21:22ESV.
We always have the choice of following God on a road of suffering or a road of seeming perfection. Which road will we take? In these 48 years of walking with Jesus I have always found Him faithful, even on the roads of suffering. He is at our side, His Holy Sprit inside us every moment. There’s always a time of growing closer to Him, knowing Him more intimately Understanding 1Peter 4:13NLT “Instead, be very glad—for these trials make you partners with Christ in His suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing His glory when it is revealed to all the world.”
One of my pastimes is crocheting doilies. For those unfamiliar with these, they’re lacy, delicate and dainty combinations of loops and knots done with thread and a small hook. In the beginning no one can guess what the finished doily will look like. There’s no definition for several rows. Suddenly the pattern will change and a different look will form. At last is a thing of beauty. Yahweh Adonai creates the patterns. Holy Spirit gently takes the hooks, passing the thread over once, twice, drawing another loop through the other loops. At times knots develop in the thread, looking impossible to undo. We have to trust His workmanship to undo the knots— sufferings— in our lives bringing about our healings, deliverances, or whatever our need is.
Trust and faith are key to all God has for His children. Look to Him for everything. Take His Words as final authority. It’s your choice. You choose.
LET’S PRAY: LORD God all of Your promises are yes and amen in Christ. We trust You and You alone to perfect the work You have begun in our lives. Help us to trust You more, in the name of Jesus Christ I pray.
by Debbie Veilleux Copyright 2024 You have my permission to reblog this devotional for others. Please keep my name with this devotional, as author. Thank you.

Faith in Action: Extraordinary Testimonies from Mission Fields
Missionary work transcends mere outreach—it embodies the profound power of faith lived out daily. Across deserts, rainforests, urban slums, and mountain retreats, missionaries carry with them hope that blossoms into transformative change. Their unwavering dedication reveals astonishing feats of compassion that continue to inspire communities worldwide.
Restoring Health, Restoring Dignity
In remote regions where hospitals are miles away, medical missionaries serve as the first—and often only—lifeline. In a rural Cambodian province, a mobile medical team travels by motorcycle to reach villages cut off by monsoon floods. They administer vaccinations, treat malnutrition, and teach preventive health practices. Mothers who once lost infants to common infections now celebrate full childhoods, thanks to these traveling healers. Each life saved is a living miracle, testifying to the profound impact of faith-driven service.
Meanwhile, in the dry plains of East Africa, clean-water projects spearheaded by faith-based organizations have revolutionized daily life. Hand-pumped wells bring fresh water to communities that once endured waterborne diseases. Local women, who spent hours fetching water, now invest their time in education and small businesses. As wells flow, so too does hope—spurring economic growth and healthier families.
Empowering Through Education
Education is another cornerstone of modern missions. In South America’s Andean villages, literacy programs launched by missionaries have rewritten futures. Children who once lacked access to reading materials now attend classes in solar-powered classrooms. They learn not only to read and write but also to interpret health pamphlets and agricultural guides. This newfound knowledge equips families to cultivate higher-yield crops and combat malnutrition. In turn, these communities become self-sustaining, proving that faith and education can flourish hand in hand.
Across Southeast Asia, orphanage schools established by missionary volunteers welcome children forced to the streets by poverty. Beyond basic academics, these schools offer trauma counseling and life skills training. Teenagers learn trades such as sewing, woodworking, and computer basics—skills that open doors to stable employment. As graduates step into the workforce, they carry with them stories of hope and resilience, becoming living ambassadors of the faith that helped them rise.
Building Bridges of Understanding
Sincere dialogue and cultural respect underpin the most enduring missionary efforts. In the Pacific Islands, missionaries work alongside tribal elders to restore traditional farming methods while introducing sustainable agriculture techniques. By honoring ancestral wisdom, missionaries forge genuine partnerships rather than imposing foreign ideals. The result is a harmonious blend of past and present—a testament to what can happen when faith honors culture instead of overriding it.
Similarly, in Middle Eastern refugee camps, faith-based teams collaborate with local leaders to provide psychosocial support. Language barriers are bridged by volunteer interpreters, many of whom are former refugees themselves. Together, they organize art therapy sessions, community gardens, and youth sports leagues. These initiatives foster unity and rebuild fractured identities, showcasing the remarkable power of collective faith in healing trauma.
Sustaining the Flame of Hope
Missionary journeys often begin with small steps—handing out food packages, offering prayer, or helping repair a leaky roof. Yet these humble acts ignite movements that flourish long after the first seeds are sown. In Central America, a single literacy class grew into a regional network of community libraries. In South Asia, a modest clinic expanded into a full hospital complex, training local staff to carry the mission forward.
These stories remind us that miracles are not confined to scripture; they unfold when ordinary people, fueled by extraordinary faith, choose compassion over indifference. Each well-drilled, classroom-opened, and a life-saved reveals that missionary work is more than a vocation—it is a vivid testament to the boundless reach of hope. In every corner of the world, miracles abound when faith commits to action.

Embracing Therapy for Trauma Through Online Christian Counselling in Australia
Trauma can leave a lasting mark on a person’s emotional, spiritual, and physical well-being. Whether stemming from childhood abuse, personal loss, violence, or other life-altering experiences, trauma disrupts daily life and relationships. Finding the right path to healing can be a journey in itself. For many Australians, embracing therapy for trauma through a spiritually grounded approach such as online Christian counselling in Australia offers a deeply meaningful and effective method for recovery. Combining faith with psychological insight, this method supports holistic healing and restoration of the self.
In the modern age of virtual connectivity, online Christian counselling in Australia makes professional therapy more accessible than ever. Clients can receive faith-based support regardless of where they live. This mode of therapy not only eliminates geographical barriers but also offers convenience and discretion, allowing people to seek help in the comfort of their own homes. For those dealing with the deep emotional wounds left by traumatic events, this can be a powerful first step towards change. Choosing therapy for trauma delivered through a Christian framework ensures that healing involves both the heart and the soul, aligned with one’s beliefs and values.
Trauma impacts individuals in various ways, including symptoms such as anxiety, depression, nightmares, withdrawal, and difficulty in trusting others. These symptoms don’t just go away with time — they require compassionate intervention and guided self-work. Integrating biblical principles with evidence-based therapeutic methods, Christian counselling offers support that addresses the root of the pain while nurturing a person’s spiritual foundation. This approach allows clients to explore their trauma in a safe, prayerful environment where faith in God becomes a cornerstone of their healing.
Harvest Clinic, a trusted provider of therapeutic services, recognises the importance of faith in mental health treatment. Their approach acknowledges the complexities of trauma while offering personalised and faith-sensitive care to every client. The inclusion of biblical teachings and prayer not only brings comfort but also encourages hope, forgiveness, and renewal.
A significant benefit of engaging in online Christian counselling in Australia is the flexibility it provides. Individuals coping with trauma often struggle with daily routines and commitments. Online sessions mean they don’t need to navigate crowded spaces or endure long wait times. Whether dealing with post-traumatic stress, grief, or emotional neglect, online therapy helps individuals begin their healing process in familiar, safe surroundings, where they can be vulnerable and open.
Christian counsellors focus on the unique personal journey of each client, understanding that faith often plays a central role in how people view pain and suffering. By combining scriptures with therapeutic dialogue, these sessions foster emotional growth, encourage deeper trust in God’s purpose, and provide insights that resonate on both a human and spiritual level. With careful guidance, clients learn to reframe their experience, discover resilience, and build a life that thrives beyond trauma.
Moreover, therapy through Christian counselling doesn’t ignore psychological science. Instead, it enhances it. Clients are supported through established therapeutic techniques like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), or trauma-informed approaches, while also being encouraged to seek peace through scripture, worship, and prayer. This dual framework allows for healing that feels not only effective but also spiritually affirming.
Harvest Clinic offers a range of online support options to ensure people from all backgrounds, communities, and regions can access expert help. The team respects each individual’s pace and needs, allowing therapy to unfold naturally and respectfully. As part of a wider vision, the clinic aims to be a refuge of restoration for those who have suffered, ensuring that every client feels heard, valued, and supported.
Ultimately, therapy for trauma rooted in Christian principles allows individuals to experience emotional recovery without compromising their faith. With the convenience of online Christian counselling in Australia, more people are able to access care that understands both their pain and their beliefs. It’s a path of healing that unites professional guidance with divine grace — reminding clients that recovery is possible, and they are never alone on their journey.

WITHERED PASTURES
WITHERED PASTURES
Jeremiah 23:9-11

A withered pasture is a field where the grass has dried up and died, often due to drought or as a sign of God’s judgment. For example, Amos 1:2 says, “The pastures of the shepherds mourn, and the top of Carmel withers,” showing that even the most fertile places can become barren when God’s judgment comes.
Biblically, withered pasture is a powerful image of loss, divine judgment, and the fleeting nature of life without God’s sustaining power. In scripture, withered pastures often symbolize desolation and spiritual decay—a land that has lost its vitality because of sin, neglect, or punishment from God.
Joel 1:10-12 describes ruined fields and failing crops, symbolizing the consequences of disobedience. Jeremiah 12:10-11 speaks of shepherds destroying God’s vineyard, turning a once fertile land into a wasteland, representing spiritual neglect. Isaiah 24:4-6 portrays the earth mourning and withering due to humanity’s transgressions, emphasizing the impact of sin on creation and the breaking of God’s covenant.
The imagery of withered pastures serves as a spiritual warning, reminding people of the importance of staying faithful to God. Yet, the Bible also emphasizes restoration and renewal—when people repent, God restores the land and brings life back to what was once barren, as seen in 2 Chronicles 7:14.
Just as barren land lacks nourishment, people can experience spiritual emptiness when disconnected from faith, purpose, or personal growth. Spiritual dryness is often the evidence of a lack of godly, nourishing fellowship with the Lord.
Today, environmental disasters—earthquakes, floods, climate change, deforestation, and land degradation—mirror the biblical imagery of withered pastures, reminding us of the importance of stewardship and the consequences of neglect.
Societal decay—corruption, injustice, and moral decline—can also be seen as a form of withering, where communities lose their vitality and ethical foundation in pursuit of worldly things. This leads to a loss of blessing or even divine judgment: when God withholds rain or brings judgment, the land withers, showing that all life and blessing come from Him.
Just as grass withers and flowers fade, so human life is short and fragile. Isaiah 40:6–8 uses this imagery to remind us that people are like grass—temporary and dependent on God—while God’s word endures forever.
A withered pasture is a vicious cycle. It creates spiritual emptiness and dryness when people or communities are cut off from God’s life-giving presence. This can lead to personal struggles—financial, emotional, or relational—where it feels like one’s own “pasture” is drying up and in need of renewal and healing.
The Bible often pairs the image of withered pastures with hope and restoration, emphasizing that renewal is possible through faith, repentance, and perseverance. People and nations do not become corrupt or decay overnight; it is a gradual process, often left unchecked by the actions of ungodly leaders, as described in Jeremiah 23:9-11.
Isaiah 24:4-6 shows the earth mourning and withering due to humanity’s sins, highlighting the impact of breaking God’s everlasting covenant. The land is defiled by those meant to care for it, and moral laws are overturned by human actions.
We see this in our world today. As Jeremiah 12:10-11 says, shepherds destroy God’s vineyard, turning fertile land into wasteland, representing spiritual neglect. Nations and people once rich and fertile are now in poverty because of sin and wickedness.
But when people repent and return to God, He restores the land and brings life back to what was lost.
It reminds us that true life and fruitfulness come only from God, and without Him, all else will eventually wither and fade.
PRAYER: Lord, we will not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, inwardly we are being renewed day by day. Continuously renew our spirit, even in difficult times, O Lord, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Shalom

Why Is the Holy Bible Our Source of Strength
Life doesn’t come with a manual. But for millions around the world, the Holy Bible comes close.
In times of stress, doubt, fear, or confusion, we often look for strength in the wrong places—social media, advice columns, and even our limited wisdom. But true resilience comes from something deeper, something eternal.
Tumblr media
The Holy Bible is more than a religious text. It is a lifeline. And in Gima Mathew’s book The Prodigal Journey: Lessons of Grace, Mercy and Redemption, we’re reminded how Scripture is not only our guide but our source of healing, hope, and strength.
The Bible offers unchanging truth in a constantly shifting world. As culture moves and values blur, the Word of God stands firm. For example, in Luke 15, the story of the Prodigal Son shows the pain of separation and the power of reconciliation. Dr. Mathew points out how the story doesn’t just entertain us—it strengthens our understanding of God’s love.
When you feel broken, Psalm 34:18 reminds you, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” When you’re unsure of your next step, Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
Every moment of fear, anxiety, or anger is answered in Scripture. The lessons in the Holy Bible are not a cliché but a living, breathing word from God.
In The Prodigal Journey, we see how the father in the parable reflects God’s mercy. It shows us that knowing who God is gives us strength. He is not distant. He is not harsh. He is love, grace, and truth. And the Bible reveals this over and over again.
When relationships hurt, forgiveness feels impossible, and pride creeps in, the Bible doesn’t stay silent. It gives guidance, comfort, and correction. As Mathew explains, the older brother in the parable had everything materially, but lacked spiritual maturity. Similar to this, reading the Bible exposes our hidden struggles and gently calls us to grow.
The world will test your faith. But the Bible builds it. Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.” The more we soak in Scripture, our trust in God strengthens.
In this regard, Gima Mathew doesn’t just reference Scripture in her book. She brings it to life. She shows how one parable from the Gospel of Luke can carry the weight of grace, correction, healing, and restoration.
That’s the power of the Bible. One story can change your heart.
When life hits hard, turn to the One who speaks life. The Bible is not a collection of old sayings. Instead, it is a wellspring of strength for today.
And if you’ve forgotten how to draw from it, The Prodigal Journey is a beautiful place to start again. Through its deep insights and spiritual encouragement, this book reminds us why the Word of God is still and always our greatest source of strength.
The Prodigal Journey is a beautiful read for anyone looking to connect with God’s grace. Whether you’re facing challenges, seeking forgiveness, or wanting to understand the Bible better, Mathew’s book offers hope and encouragement. It reminds us that no matter how far we wander, God’s love is always there, ready to welcome us home. This is a book that will leave you inspired to live with more kindness, humility, and faith.

Discovering Biblical Theology: How Tracing God’s Story Brings the Bible to Life
Tumblr media
Have you ever wondered how the Bible fits together as one big story? With 66 books written by dozens of authors over centuries, it can sometimes feel like a collection of disconnected events. That’s where Biblical Theology comes in—it helps us connect the dots and see the Bible as one unfolding story of God’s relationship with humanity.
What is Biblical Theology? Tracing God's Story from Genesis to Revelation
Biblical Theology is the approach that follows how God reveals Himself throughout Scripture, starting in Genesis and building all the way to Revelation. Instead of organising biblical truths by topics, like salvation or prayer, Biblical Theology focuses on how these themes develop over time. It respects the historical and literary setting of each book and helps us read the Bible the way it was written—as a divine narrative.
When we practise Biblical Theology, we follow the storyline of Scripture as it unfolds. We begin to see how God’s promises, covenants, and plans for redemption gradually take shape through the lives of real people in real places.
Key Features of Biblical Theology: More Than Just History
Here are some key characteristics that make Biblical Theology unique and powerful:
Historical Development: This approach recognises that God didn’t reveal everything at once. His message was shared gradually through different eras, each building on what came before.
Narrative Focus: Instead of isolating verses, Biblical Theology follows overarching themes like covenant, kingdom, creation, fall, redemption, and restoration, threaded from the Old to the New Testament.
Author-Centred: Every biblical writer contributes their own voice and insights. Biblical Theology pays attention to each author's unique emphasis and how it fits into the big picture.
Contextual Understanding: It takes historical and cultural settings seriously. Understanding the context helps us grasp what God was saying to His people then—and what it means for us now.
This method isn’t about cherry-picking verses to support a doctrine. It’s about honouring the flow of Scripture and discovering how every part fits into God’s redemptive plan.
Final Takeaway
Is Biblical Theology just for Bible college students? Absolutely not! It’s for anyone who wants to read the Bible with clarity and purpose. When you view Scripture as a single, unified story, it deepens your understanding and builds your faith.
You start to see how the promises to Abraham connect to Jesus, and how the story of Israel points to the Church. You realise that your own story is part of this bigger narrative—and that changes how you live and trust God today.
So next time you open your Bible, ask yourself: Where does this passage fit in the grand story of redemption? That’s the heart of Biblical Theology—and it’s a journey worth taking.

THE GLORY FIRE OF DIVINE TURNAROUND
In Acts 26:16, when Saul met Jesus in the explosive glory fire, Jesus "appointed" him to bear witness of Him.
The Lord is releasing a glory fire (fire of the Lord that brings sudden breakthrough and divine turnarounds) as in the days of Saul, and out of that fire He is "appointing" a generation of the Sons of Thunder (see Mark 3:17).
Thunder (in the reference in Mark 3), in the Greek means to roar. These Sons of Thunder, who will be released throughout the earth, will roar with the voice of God and shake the earth. They will walk in power and turn the world upside down for the Kingdom.
"Who has an arm like God? Or can thunder with a voice like His?" (Job 40:9)
"The voice of thunder was in Your whirlwind, the lightnings illumined the world; the earth trembled and shook." (Psalm 77:18)
"But the thunder of His power who can understand?" (Job 26:14)
With these three Scriptures we see that Thunder refers to the voice of God, the earth shaking, and His power.
GET READY FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT -- YOUR HIGH CALLING IN CHRIST
This glory fire will be released on Believers who are praying and believing for divine turnarounds and breakthrough in their own lives. But in this breakthrough they will be released into new levels of the expression of His heart -- an appointment greater than they first expected, for this appointment is to be a Son of Thunder!
For those that have been through the wilderness of humility and the fires of faith, the Lord can trust with the thunder of His voice and power. They are a vessel ready to be catapulted into moving forward in their Christ Calling in explosive fire and glory that will bear fruit that remains for His advancing Kingdom.
THE GLORY FIRE OF DIVINE TURNAROUND -- PENETRATING HEARTS!
"Divine Turnaround" is where a situation is heading in a certain direction, with a predicted outcome, and that situation is suddenly intervened upon by a divine supernatural force that causes the outcome to be the opposite. Paul was in unbelief when he was on the road to Damascus. It was only the glory fire of God that penetrated his hard heart and brought him to his knees.
Sometimes we think things are hopeless and impossible, we think our circumstances are unfixable or our loved ones are unchangeable; but one encounter with the glory fire and everything is turned around.
This glory fire will pour out over the Believer and unbeliever alike. These unbelievers are ones that have had prayers prayed over their lives for seasons upon seasons, and now the Lord is interrupting their course like He did with Saul and changing the course and direction of their lives. He is penetrating the darkness they are in by His glory fire, calling them into His heart, and setting them on course for Him.
THE SPIRIT OF ELIJAH
"And he will go before Him in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn back the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient and incredulous and unpersuadable to the wisdom of the upright [which is the knowledge and holy love of the will of God] – in order to make ready for the Lord a people prepared [in spirit, adjusted and disposed and placed in the right moral state]." (Luke 1:17 AMP)
The Spirit of Elijah mentioned in Luke 1, is an anointing of fire that brings restoration and reconciliation. It is an anointing that turns the tables and draws those that are distant from God into the heart of their Father. This explosive glory fire of divine intervention will draw a hard-hearted, unbelieving generation into the wisdom of the upright, according to Luke 1:17 – to LOVE the PURPOSE of God for their lives. These ones will prepare the way of the Lord, preparing a people made ready for His coming.
We are now in the days of divine turnaround, of wrongs being made right, of courses of destruction being turned to mirror life and life abundantly.  Get ready for your loved ones to come into the Kingdom and be appointed as a Son of Thunder! For God has not forgotten them and His arm is not short that it cannot save.

The Divine Connection: How God Reaches Humanity to Bring Salvation
Throughout history, God has continually sought connection with humanity, not from a distance, but through deeply personal and intentional means. This divine relationship is not accidental—it is a central theme in the biblical narrative and an essential truth for understanding salvation. From the garden of Eden to the early Church, God’s pursuit of mankind reveals a consistent and compassionate desire: to restore what was broken and draw people into eternal life.
1. Creation: The Origin of Divine Connection
The story begins in Genesis 1-2, where God creates humanity in His own image. This isn’t merely about physical form—it reflects relational capacity. Adam and Eve walk with God in the garden, sharing in His presence. This initial intimacy shows that from the beginning, God’s intention was communion, not distance.
Even after the fall in Genesis 3, when sin fractured that bond, God didn’t abandon humanity. Instead, He began a redemptive pursuit that would span generations.
2. Covenants: God’s Promises to Connect
One of the primary ways God re-established relationship was through covenants. These were divine promises that bound God to His people:
• Noah – In Genesis 9, after the flood, God makes a covenant with Noah, placing the rainbow in the sky as a sign of His mercy and faithfulness.
• Abraham – In Genesis 12 and 15, God calls Abraham into relationship, promising to make him a great nation through which “all peoples on earth will be blessed.” This blessing pointed ahead to Jesus.
• Moses – On Mount Sinai (Exodus 19-20), God gives the Law to help His people live rightly and reflect His holiness to the world.
Each covenant revealed God’s desire to dwell among His people and to bring about a greater plan of redemption.
3. The Prophets: God Speaks Through Messengers
Throughout the Old Testament, God raised up prophets to reconnect His people to truth. From Isaiah to Jeremiah, God used these individuals to call His people back to covenant faithfulness and to point toward a coming Savior:
• Isaiah 7:14 foretells the virgin birth of Emmanuel—“God with us.”
• Jeremiah 31:33 promises a new covenant: “I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts.”
These prophetic words weren’t just future predictions—they were God’s way of drawing near in the present.
4. Jesus: The Ultimate Connection
All of Scripture points to the coming of Jesus Christ, God incarnate. In John 1:14, it says, “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” This is the clearest demonstration of God’s desire to connect—He became one of us.
Through Jesus, God walked, talked, suffered, and ultimately died for humanity. His resurrection broke the power of sin and death, opening the way for salvation. John 14:6 records Jesus saying, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
5. The Holy Spirit: God’s Presence Within
After Jesus ascended, He sent the Holy Spirit to live in believers (Acts 2). This was a new level of divine connection—not just God with us, but God within us. The Spirit guides, comforts, convicts, and empowers. Romans 8:16 says, “The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God.”
Through the Spirit, believers experience continual communion with God and are equipped to share His message of salvation with the world.
6. The Church: A Living Connection
God’s connection with humanity is not limited to individuals. The Church, as the Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12), is a collective expression of divine relationship. It is through the Church that the message of salvation is proclaimed, communities are transformed, and lives are changed.
7. Modern Testimonies: History Speaks of Connection
Throughout history, millions have experienced God’s personal call. From Augustine’s dramatic conversion in the 4th century to John Wesley’s heart being “strangely warmed” in the 18th century, the theme is the same—God still calls, speaks, and saves.
Missionary movements, revivals, and individual testimonies across centuries reveal a consistent truth: God is not silent. He is actively reaching out to draw people into salvation.
Conclusion: A God Who Draws Near
God’s divine connection with humanity is not a distant theological idea—it is a lived reality, anchored in Scripture and history. He created us for relationship, pursued us through covenants and prophets, became one of us in Christ, and now dwells within believers through the Holy Spirit.
Salvation is not earned by human effort—it is a gift born of divine love and connection. As Revelation 3:20 declares: “Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and eat with him, and he with me.”
God’s invitation remains: to be known, to be loved, and to be saved. My question is will you answer the door??

Worthy Brief - May 7, 2025
A covenant of fire, mercy, and promise!
Genesis 15:6 And he believed the LORD, and he counted it to him as righteousness. Genesis 15:17-18 When the sun had gone down and it was dark, behold, a smoking fire pot and a flaming torch passed between these pieces. 18 On that day, the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, “To your offspring I give this land, from the river of Egypt to the great river, the river Euphrates,
In the stillness of a desert night, surrounded by cut offerings and the lingering scent of sacrifice, Abram beheld something utterly sacred -- God Himself, in the form of a smoking oven and a burning torch, passing between the pieces of a covenant. It was not Abram who walked through the blood-soaked path. It was God alone. And that changes everything.
This act is one of Scripture's clearest pictures of divine grace. Covenants in the ancient world required both parties to walk through the cut pieces, symbolizing mutual responsibility. But here, only God passes through, taking full responsibility for fulfilling His promise. He binds Himself unilaterally to Abram and his descendants—Israel. The land promise, the coming redemption, and the future inheritance were not based on man’s faithfulness but on God’s unbreakable word.
Yet the scene also shows a battle in the waiting. Before the presence of God appears, vultures descend—unclean birds seeking to steal the sacrifice (Genesis 15:11). Abram drives them away, foreshadowing every believer’s struggle. We offer God our worship, our lives, our praise—but the enemy comes, trying to rob us of our faith and steal our promises. Like Abram, we must rise up, stand guard, and fight to protect what God has spoken. Let us not passively watch while doubt, distraction, or discouragement pick apart our altars.
The symbols that appeared—smoke and fire—are rich with meaning. The smoking oven speaks of judgment, refining, and awe; the burning torch speaks of mercy, light, and hope. Together, they reveal the character of the God of Israel: just and holy, yet merciful and near. In Messiah Yeshua (Jesus), we see both realities embodied. He is Zion’s salvation that burns like a torch (Isaiah 62:1), and He is also the one cut off for the sins of His people (Isaiah 53:8). He walked between the pieces, taking on the burden of blood so that we could walk in the freedom of grace.
Yet, this covenant speaks beyond the personal—it is national. God's promises to Abram include a literal land for his descendants, and Scripture affirms that this land promise is everlasting (Psalm 105:8-11). The modern restoration of Israel in 1948 was not the result of mere human determination—it was the unfolding of God’s unbreakable covenant. Even after dispersion and judgment, He has remained faithful.
Ezekiel 36 gives voice to His divine intention:
“… It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name … And I will sanctify my great name, which was profaned among the heathen… and the heathen shall know that I am the LORD… when I shall be sanctified in you before their eyes. For I will take you from among the heathen, and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land. Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you… A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you…” (Ezekiel 36:22–26)
From the beginning, God’s plan has echoed with both physical return and spiritual awakening, calling His people back to their land and stirring their hearts to return to Him. His promise was never just to bring them home, but to cleanse them from defilement, ignite them with new life, and fill them with His Spirit through their Messiah. The exile is ending. The restoration has begun.
This is the same God who calls to us today. He still walks between the pieces. He still sanctifies His name through mercy and judgment. And He still offers to remove hearts of stone and replace them with hearts of flesh. In Yeshua, we become part of this redemptive story—grafted in, renewed, and rooted in eternal promise. (Romans 11:11-32)
Pete, so rise up, and stand your ground. Bring your offering of praise with boldness. Guard the altar of your heart—drive away every vulture that dares to steal what God has spoken. Trust the One who walked the blood-stained path alone. His fire has not gone out. His torch still blazes in the darkness. And His covenant promises remain unshakable, eternal, and true.
Your family in the Lord with much agape love,
George, Baht Rivka, Elianna and Obadiah (George, Baht Rivka & Obi - Baltimore, Maryland | Elianna - Married living in Missouri)

Kaal Sarp Puja in Ujjain: A Complete Guide to Remedying Dosha and Restoring Peace
In the realm of Vedic astrology, planetary alignments are believed to shape an individual's destiny. One such alignment that causes concern for many is the Kaal Sarp Dosh. It is said to arise when all planets are placed between Rahu (the north node of the Moon) and Ketu (the south node of the Moon) in a person’s horoscope. This dosha is believed to bring hurdles in various aspects of life such as career, marriage, health, and mental peace. Among the most powerful remedies for this dosha is the kaal sarp puja in Ujjain, a sacred ritual performed under expert guidance in one of India’s most spiritually vibrant cities.
This blog post explores everything you need to know about the puja—its purpose, process, benefits, and why Ujjain is considered the ideal place to perform it.
What is Kaal Sarp Dosh?
Kaal Sarp Dosh occurs when all the planets are hemmed between Rahu and Ketu in a person’s natal chart. Depending on the position of these shadow planets, there are twelve types of Kaal Sarp Dosh—each affecting different areas of life. Some common symptoms or effects include:
Delays or obstacles in marriage and relationships
Financial instability
Poor career progression or frequent job changes
Chronic health problems
Unexplained fears or emotional instability
Negative patterns and repeated failures
To mitigate the impact of this dosha, Vedic astrologers often recommend performing the kaal sarp puja in ujjain.
Why Choose Ujjain for Kaal Sarp Puja?
Ujjain, situated on the banks of the holy Shipra River in Madhya Pradesh, is one of the seven sacred Moksha-puris in Hinduism. It is also home to the famous Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlinga, a highly revered temple of Lord Shiva. The city’s astrological and spiritual significance makes it the perfect destination for performing remedial rituals.
Here’s why Ujjain is the preferred location for kaal sarp puja in ujjain:
Spiritual Energy: The Mahakaleshwar Temple amplifies the power of mantras and rituals performed in its vicinity.
Astrological Importance: Ujjain has historically been a hub for Vedic astrology and timekeeping.
Skilled Priests: The city is home to learned and experienced Vedic pandits who conduct the puja as per ancient scriptures.
Convenient Access: Ujjain is well-connected by road and rail, making it easy for devotees to visit.
Ritual Process of Kaal Sarp Puja
The kaal sarp puja in ujjain is a highly detailed and structured ritual usually performed in the morning, particularly on auspicious days like Amavasya, Nag Panchami, or during Shravan Maas. The ritual generally involves the following steps:
Sankalp (Pledge): The devotee takes a vow to perform the puja with sincerity and devotion.
Ganesh Puja: Worship of Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles and ensure smooth completion.
Kalash Sthapana: Setting up the sacred pot symbolizing the deities' presence.
Navagraha Puja: Appeasement of all nine planetary deities.
Rahu-Ketu Shanti Mantras: Recitation of powerful beej mantras for Rahu and Ketu.
Kaal Sarp Dosh Nivaran Ritual: Special offerings and prayers dedicated to neutralize the dosha.
Nag Devta Puja: Offering milk, flowers, and sweets to the serpent gods.
Havan (Fire Ritual): Offerings made to sacred fire while chanting Vedic mantras.
Purna Ahuti and Aarti: Concluding prayers followed by blessings from the priest.
The entire kaal sarp puja in ujjain takes about 2 to 3 hours and is usually done individually or in small groups to maintain focus and purity.
Benefits of Performing Kaal Sarp Puja
The puja is believed to bring a wide range of spiritual and material benefits when performed with faith and under proper guidance. Here are some commonly experienced advantages:
Reduces the negative influence of Rahu and Ketu
Provides relief from obstacles in marriage, career, and education
Helps in achieving mental peace and stability
Offers protection from sudden accidents or health issues
Enhances positivity, motivation, and emotional well-being
Improves family harmony and financial growth
Individuals who have undergone kaal sarp puja in ujjain often report significant improvements in their life patterns and emotional outlook.
Best Time to Perform the Puja
While the puja can be conducted at any time after consultation with an astrologer, certain days and timings are considered especially auspicious:
Amavasya (New Moon Day)
Nag Panchami
During Rahu-Kaal or Abhijit Muhurat
On Mondays or during Shravan month
Scheduling the kaal sarp puja in ujjain during these periods enhances the ritual’s effectiveness.
Who Should Perform the Kaal Sarp Puja?
This puja is highly recommended for individuals who:
Have Kaal Sarp Dosh in their birth chart
Are facing repeated failures despite efforts
Experience frequent emotional distress or health issues
Encounter obstacles in marriage or professional life
Even if you’re unsure, an astrological consultation can confirm whether this ritual is appropriate for you. Once confirmed, performing the kaal sarp puja in ujjain can prove transformative.
Cost of Kaal Sarp Puja in Ujjain
The cost of the puja varies based on the complexity, number of priests involved, and whether it’s performed individually or in a group. On average, the pricing ranges from ₹5,100 to ₹15,000. This typically includes dakshina, puja samagri (items), and temple arrangements.
For more personalized rituals or additional services such as horoscope analysis and havan, the cost may be slightly higher. Many reputable pandits and spiritual service providers in Ujjain offer online booking and remote participation options.
How to Prepare for the Puja
To get the most out of the kaal sarp puja in ujjain, it is important to observe certain rituals and rules:
Fast or consume satvik (pure) food the night before
Wear clean traditional clothes (preferably white or yellow)
Avoid alcohol, non-vegetarian food, and negative thoughts
Arrive early at the temple to avoid crowds
Follow the instructions of the pandit throughout the ritual
Some people also donate clothes, food, or money to the poor as part of the remedy process.
Conclusion
The presence of Kaal Sarp Dosh can create significant roadblocks in one’s life journey, but Vedic rituals offer effective solutions. Performing the kaal sarp puja in ujjain is not just a religious act—it’s a spiritual realignment with the cosmic energies that influence your birth chart. Ujjain, with its divine energy and ancient legacy, offers the ideal setting for this transformative ritual.
Whether you’re seeking peace, prosperity, or spiritual balance, this sacred puja in Ujjain is a path worth exploring. Consult a trusted astrologer and take the first step toward a more harmonious and fulfilling life.

Fifth Sunday of Lent
Isaiah 43: 16-31
The prophet says that God promises something new to a people in exile.
Psalm 126
The psalmist tells the story of the people’s return from exile.
Philippians 3: 8-14
Paul speaks of his journey in faith to Christ.
John 8: 1-11
The Gospel relates the story of the woman “caught” in adultery.”
This Gospel story is a powerful story of abuse and care.  The plight of the woman today is a familiar one.  It appears that she is being used to trap Jesus.  Her accusers fail to bring two witnesses to the event, which was required by Scripture and the man, who was her partner.  Jesus calls out the hypocrites accusing her, and suggests that the “one among you who is without sin cast the first stone.”   He says he will not condemn her, and suggests that she make a change in her life.  What a gesture of compassion in the midst of a public condemnation and the obvious use of someone to seek punishment of another.
I decided that at this mid-point in Lent, to reflect on the concept of “exile” that is the heart of our first reading and the Psalm.  Even Paul, in his Letter to the Philippians alludes to the concept.  While he dearly loves his faith, this letter describes his willing exile from it to pursue faith in Christ.  “For Christ’s sake I have accepted the loss of all things…that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having and righteousness of my own based on the law but that which comes through faith in Christ….”
So many men, women and children in our world today are working their way through periods of exile.  Exiled from their homes, their roots, and members of their own families. Sources say that in 2024, 126 million is the count.  Some leave for education and work but most flee war, poverty. and hunger.
The Israelites in our first reading, are promised restoration and “something new.”  God promises through the words of Isaiah, a return home from exile in Babylon.  Isaiah says that God, “is doing something new” and that in the desert that the people are facing, that God will “make a way” and will “put water in the desert, and rivers in the wasteland.”
Perhaps we have all faced moments that we could call an “exile experience” in our lives.  The death of a loved one, loss of a job, or denial of our gifts and suggestions.  I have a sense that Jesus must have felt this when the religious leaders of the faith he loved, tried to condemn him, and exile him from his call, as well as trying to discredit him.  But during the pain he must have suffered, think of what he did today to free the woman from the exile of her life, and to expose the behavior of those who were using her.
Jesus’ choice of compassion today for this poor woman, must have extended his feelings of exile that he was experiencing from the religious leaders. One writer has said that “This kind of mercy is likely to restore confidence and courage, and draw her closer to God….”  May his actions be a model for all of us.
